Have your say:
Wet Tropics Management Plan Review
Phase 2 | Conservation Sector Workshop
Saturday 6th April 10am – 2pm at 63 Anderson St Manunda

Are you passionate about the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area and want your opinion on its management heard? We need your input to help inform a conservation sector response.

As part of a 10-year review, the Wet Tropics Management Authority is calling for comment on the Wet Tropics Management Plan 1988. The Management Plan is the regulatory instrument that protects the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area with a zoning and permit scheme, regulating activities that have the potential to affect World Heritage values.

After taking into account points raised during the first phase of public consultation (held during 2017–2018), the Authority has adapted the plan and expanded it to include a strategic plan — this new approach addresses matters such as climate change, biosecurity and supporting Rainforest Aboriginal People.

The draft Wet Tropics Management Plan is now open for review and comment until 18 April 2019 at wettropics.gov.au/planreview.

With the support of Wet Tropics Management Authority, CAFNEC is coordinating a conservation sector submission as we did in Phase 1. We’re calling on our members and supporters to provide their expertise and opinions to help shape this response.

We cannot emphasize enough how important it is to have a say in this critical review of the regulatory plan. Changes will be in place for the next decade and will shape management of the World Heritage Area for many years to come. Now is the time to have our say.Next Saturday we will be hosting a detailed community info session and workshop which will inform a conservation sector submission led by CAFNEC.
