Community action is needed to halt the continued push by the Newman government to expand port infrastructure along the Great Barrier Reef coast, including the Abbott Point and Trinity Inlet projects. Not to mention, the State Government’s ongoing support for coal and gas mining and the very real potential for uranium mining in North Queensland.
Our region needs to come together to show this government that the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area is ‘In Danger’ from such development and mining expansion, as has been identified by the World Heritage Committee.
To galvanise support for the protection of the Great Barrier Reef we need your help.
Have you got time to work with a group to help organise forums, public events and actions?
If so, come along to the first Reef in Danger Action Group meeting at 6pm on Tuesday 27th Nov, 2012 in the library of the Cairns and Far North Environment Centre (Upstairs, Cominos House, 27-29 Greenslopes Street, Cairns)
We expect this first meeting to last about 2 hours and focus on some short term goals for the local Reef in Danger campaign.
Snacks and drinks will be provided.
Hope to see you there….
