We’re lucky to live in a region with abundant native wildlife. From dugong to echindnas, migratory wader birds to flying foxes, there are a diverse range of species living in and around our cities and towns in far north Queensland. As is often the case when humans and wildlife live together in close proximity, issues arise where there is a perceived conflict between human needs and wildlife preservation. Some of the major issues are included below.
We work to encourage greater respect for our native wildlife and to promote solutions that provide positive outcomes for the community and do not degrade habitat or further stress wildlife populations.
For more information about our local species visit the Wet Tropics Management Authority or the Great barrier Reef Marine Park Authority.
