Let’s meet, discuss and plan how WE can create the biggest rally that Cairns has ever seen. To change everything we need EVERYone: join us!
It’s easy to be overwhelmed by the scale of climate change, and although you may have heard it before, we ARE at a turning point. The effects of human-induced climate change are being seen across the globe, from the worst wildfires on record in the United States, to severe droughts in the Middle East, and heatwaves shattering records across Europe. Last year was the third-hottest year on record in Australia and this year, Palm Cove was nominated as the first beach town in the country likely to be destroyed by sea level rise.
It’s not all doom and gloom though. Governments and businesses around the world are shifting their focus, away from polluting coal mines and towards wind, solar and geothermal energies. An energy revolution is happening right now, and we want Australia to be a part of it!
Businesses and economies of the world are moving away from climate pollution and are setting strong targets to reduce emissions to ensure we have a future on planet earth. We need Australia to be up there with them this December in Paris at the UN Climate Talks. Unfortunately, our government’s minimal targets are insulting to those who already suffer from the severe climate impacts and extreme weather events that we’ve seen increasing the world over. We need to build a movement that’s strong enough to force the Australian government and political leaders like Malcolm Turnbull to make a choice about where their allegiances really lie in the global fight against climate change. We need to send a strong and clear message: ‘you can come with us on the journey of transforming our economy and society, or you will be left behind.’
The organisers of People’s Climate Marches across Australia are connecting the growing climate movement and we need artists, health professionals, indigenous Australians, Pacific Island peoples, plumbers, businessmen and women, teachers, painters, lawyers, farmers, unionists, and environmentalists to join us in uniting to host the biggest march Cairns has ever seen! Join us in marches planned across the world with hundreds of thousands joining them internationally in their home cities to tell our governments that WE DEMAND ACTION!
