The Cairns and Far North Environment Centre has created the FNQ Solar Hub project to promote the uptake of solar power by the households and businesses of Far North Queensland and to direct people to participating solar providers.
The FNQ Solar Hub will provide clear and unbiased information to the community about the benefits of going solar and what to consider when purchasing a solar power system.  Information will be provided via a web portal, which will link to all participating companies.To ensure we’re working with quality companies, we have set a strict list of criteria that these companies need to meet.  These companies have also agreed to donate $50/kW of solar system sold to our Solar Futures Fund to help put solar on roofs in remote north Queensland communities, Powering Our Region!

To celebrate the launch of the FNQ Solar Hub, we will be hosting a Free ‘Going Solar’ workshop.  There will be a presentation on solar basics and what you need to know about going solar.  There will also be an opportunity to meet with participating solar companies to discuss your solar needs.

If you or someone you know is a household and/or business property owner interested in going solar but want more information on what this entails, please come along to:

The 100% Renewable Energy Campaign has been a hugely successful and popular national campaign. It has been attributed with being highly influential in putting renewable energy on the national agenda and keeping it there. Being a part of this national campaign allows us here in Cairns to have an impact on national policy. Over the past couple of years the 100% renewable team in Cairns (supported by CAFNEC) has been at the forefront of climate and renewable energy community action and has ensured that those actions are both locally and nationally relevant.

We’re looking for people with passion, commitment and willingness to work as part of a local and national team to win tangible results. It’s a great opportunity to develop leadership and organizational skills and be part of a team that does something practical about climate change and – yes – protecting Australians from the madness of spiraling fuel prices and supply issues.

Come along this Sunday to show your support for a renewable energy future for Australia, and more specifically for a revolutionary shift to renewable energy for Port Augusta in South Australia.

Right now, a group of 100 community members are walking the 300km all the way from Port Augusta to the Premiers office in Adelaide to support replacing Port Augusta’s coal stations with a solar thermal power station.

This group will arrive in Adelaide this Sunday and all around Australia, people will be hosting SOLARdarity walks in their cities and towns to demonstrate the strong community support for creating a clean, renewable energy future for Australia.

Port Augusta is a town at a crossroads. With two coal-fired power stations closing, and an opportunity to decide whether they are replaced with Australia’s first solar thermal power station, or with a dirty gas plant. The power company, the local council, local community and businesses all want solar – but to make this happen we need the support of the Premier and the Federal Government. We need to make Port Augusta a national issue.

Cairns supporters will show “solardarity” by walking along the Esplanade through town and to our local politicians’ offices. Come along and show your support!!
