Planning Developments Cairns

Our region is famous for its immense beauty, and environmental and cultural significance. It is a rare place in which we live side-by-side with the oldest living rainforest in the world, and a stones throw away from the Great Barrier Reef.

However, it is undergoing huge developments that are seeing the privatisation of land, and the loss of areas of great ecological significance. Take a look at the most recent plan for Cairns, CairnsPlan 2016 v1.3 that outline areas of development.

Clifton Beach Development

Currently there is a proposed plan, Planning application Ref Number 9450/2019, to develop the significantly rich ‘Conservation Zone’ between Kewarra and Clifton Beach. This area is a natural waterway trigger site with Deep Creek intersecting through, and surrounded by dense mangrove forest and paperbark trees. The proposed plan is for a Material Change of Use for a Dwelling House of two-storeys and will cover an approximate area of 842.8m2.

This site is a unique and significant area of biological and ecological value of the northern beaches community. It can not be a precedent for destroying the beautiful Wet Tropics environment.

Send your Submission to Cairns Regional Council to help the Cairns Combined Beaches Community to object the Planning application.

The due date for submissions is Wednesday 31st July.
